Using Microsoft Copilot with PowerPoint

Presentation Solutions have investigated using Copilot with PowerPoint and we are not satisfied by the results. We have found that Copilot doesn’t follow template masters according to the established rules of PowerPoint template design. It will adjust layouts and add elements outside positions of the placeholders defined in the master layouts. Even when we add a range of master layouts according to Microsoft’s guidance on template setup Copilot makes very basic choices about the layouts to use.

Copilot prompts the user to adjust layouts using the Designer following the initial generation of a presentation. This Designer does make better use of the template setup. It will select from more of the layouts defined in the masters and adjusted content is positioned according to the master placeholder positionings.

If you use Copilot to generate a presentation it will not insert slides which include the tags necessary for your presentation to work with Create. For example, if you wish to generate a Create agenda/table of contents based on slide titles then it will only pick up slides inserted from the Create Layouts. However, you can reinsert slide titles into any layout from the Create AutoText pane so that the title will pick up in an agenda. Tables and charts can be sent from Excel to PowerPoint using Create linking into a presentation started with Copilot.
