Setting the default font in Microsoft 365

Modified on Thu, 24 Sep at 10:43 AM

We will make sure all the templates and settings in Create apply your chosen brand fonts. If users start and edit all their documents using Create the fonts should be consistently applied.

Native Microsoft 365 settings for the default font

If you do wish to apply default font settings to Microsoft 365 outside of Create then the following principles apply:

  • PowerPoint: Setting up a default template is the only way to apply a default font in PowerPoint. Create replaces the default template with a Create template which will have your brand fonts applied making any additional settings unnecessary. If your IT team separately define a default template outside of Create you may find that two templates load on opening PowerPoint.
  • Excel: Microsoft allow the setting of a default font in Excel with a cloud/group policy - your IT team can enable this without it impacting Create.
  • Word: there are no group policy objects which allow the setting of the default font in Word. Instead a Normal.dotm template with the default font set can be applied to all users' PC by an administrator.
