| Missing images are the result of a combination of Microsoft Office bugs and a lack of available memory. The red crosses can also appear if someone, whose computer is short on memory, has worked on the file. Unfortunately, there isn’t much that can be done to repair a file once this issue has occurred. For images that are part of the template such as the logo and cover image, the best approach would be to paste your slides into a new presentation. Other images will need to be reinserted from the original source. The following will help you to avoid experiencing the same issues in the future: 1. Microsoft have worked to fix these bugs and so your first step should be to ask your IT team to ensure that you have the latest updates to your version of Office. 2. Ensure that you have sufficient memory available on your pc. 3. Avoid embedding workbooks (using native Office cut and paste embedded chart and table options) or very large images in your presentation as these both demand excess resource from your pc when you are editing a PowerPoint file. Instead: 1. Send charts and tables to PowerPoint from Excel using the Create “Send to” options as none of these will embed unnecessary file size. 2. Use images from the Images pane in Create as these have been appropriately sized for use in PowerPoint 4. Avoid editing files directly on zip drives – save the file to your hard disk first. 5. Does the issue occur when the file is saved on a cloud or shared drive? If so, try saving the file to your local hard disk to identify if you have an issue with easily saving changes back to the drive. |
